Howard Stern Rips Jay Leno Over 'Tonight Show' Staff Cuts; NBC Reprimands Him: "@JimmyKimmel recently aid the same thing about Leno. And it seems Stern, Kimmel and others have Jay's number. Leno didn't win any friends when he reneged on his word to give up the Tonight Show only to go along with NBC and get it back. He could have easily stayed out of the fray and bowed out gracefully. He claims he bank his salary and rely on his standup routine that makes his money. Among his comedian peers, they don't respect him. He could have just hit the circuit and could have discovered uncharted waters and new opportunities. Instead, a contentious battle begins, longtime feelings are damaged and never recovered and a pattern is established for we have seen this before when Leno hid in a closet to eavesdrop on a meeting on who would take over the Tonight Show, him or Letterman. Carson anointed Letterman for the job but NBC didn't like Letterman's abrasive style and uncontrollable behavior. Leno was their puppet and they went with him. History will one day look back on this era and perhaps give a more academic look at the Late Night wars and see that Leno did more harm to himself by not staying true to his word. In the end, sometimes that's all that we have."
