Richard Gere: 'Pretty Woman' Was 'My Least Favorite' Movie: "Pretty Woman carried Julia Roberts career for years while she made bad movie after bad movie. Entertainment Tonight was her cheerleader with that reference. The film as an insult to women empowerment as it sanctioned prostitution and made it romantic but in real life, prostitutes lives are nowhere near like a romantic comedy. She was suppose to die in the end but the director wanted a happier ending and felt it would be a downer. This Pretty Woman prostitute was a fantasy that should have been protested heavily by women's groups but because you had this rich man and this non ugly woman, they gave it a pass. Leave it to Disney to make prostitution look like Cinderella."
